Fun Writing Exercise

Tired of boring cliches? Contest judges always point them out in my work, but never offer fresh suggestions. So, let's do a little exercise and rewite these boring bits:

like an idiot - like an academic ninja
strong as an ox - strong as a defensive lineman
faithful as a dog - fathful as a bill collector
drunk as a sailor - drunk as a frat brother
broken hearted - in need of ice cream therapy
pretty as a picture - pretty as a postcard...pretty as a princess...pretty as a pop star
cute as a button - cute as a bunny...cute as a speckled pup...cute as a cupcake

I always have a hard time with these. Mainly because I rarely get a cliche right. Hard to think of something new for something you can't ever recall the proper version of in the first place :-).

Great ideas!

I'm terrible at these too but I love as faithful as a bill collector. Yes, they are very faithful! LOL

And drunk as a frat brother. These are good ones, Jenna. Very good. :)
