Resolutions Tour 2013 : Blood Type Diet with Paty Jager

Welcome Paty Jager, author of Secrets of a Mayan Moon to Jenna's Romantic Notions... What are your thoughts on my New Year's resolution to eat healthier?

Ten years ago right after my oldest daughter’s wedding, I had an awakening. I didn’t realize how far I’d let myself go until I saw a video of my backside while hanging decorations. I looked like the back end of an elephant.

One of my closest friends had just told me about a new diet she’d read about. It was called, “Eat Right for Your Blood Type.” I bought the book and began a campaign to lose weight. By the time my other daughter’s wedding came around nine months later,  I’d shrunk from almost into a size 18 down to a size 10 by staying faithful to the diet and exercising. I’ve always been able to lose weight if I stayed active and eat protein.

I was lucky that my blood type allows for the most lenient diet and was heavy in the proteins that I’d learned long ago were best for my body. If I maintain a high protein diet and get exercise I am happy with my size and my health.

One of my favorite recipes from the book is for Roasted Yams with Rosemary.
5 to 6 medium yams, quartered
¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary or teaspoons dried
Dash cayenne or Cajun spice
Blend everything together and put into a glass dish. Bake in the over at 350 degrees F for 1 hour.

Makes 4 servings

Great recipe. We all have the books that made the most differnce. I've heard of the Blood Type diet, but haven't read it. French Women Don't Get Fat and Louise Gittleman's Fat Flush were both very influential for me.

Love the recipe, Paty. I love yams. I'm going to try this one. I've never heard of the book but I'll check it out. I'm always looking for diet options. Exercise is my bane. Must get to it.

Not sure I still have the book but I used to. Thanks for reminding me of it and how effective being aware of what we eat and exercising can be in keeping ourselves healthy.

I read Eat Right 4 Your Type. I liked the theories, but in our house there are 3 different types! Couldn't keep track of it all. Plus, I was supposed to avoid cheese and that gave me the sad.

Hi, Paty! I've heard of this way of eating and that it works really well. I'm still losing the bunch of weight I gained 2-3 years ago. Most of mine is unloading the emotional garbage that's been weighing me down. Getting there--it would go much faster if I didn't hit periods of battling myself. Silly of me. :)

Congrats on your weight loss!

My chiropractor had me get that book. I'm supposed to eat vegetarian. Although we don't eat a lot of meat, we do eat it several times a week.

Yum, yams :) And I'm always looking for something to do with the rosemary TREE that grows in my yard. The thing is a monster!

Wow! I've never heard of this kind of diet. I don't really need to diet yet, but I guess I will when I get older. By the way, Paty Jager, I read your book Secrets of a Mayn Moon. It was FANTASTIC!!! one of the best books I've read this year. Maggie Jaimeson told me about it and she was right. Everyone should read it.

I had a busy day yesterday away from the computer yesterday and didn't get back here,Sorry!

Hi Kate, Thanks! I've fallen a little but the New Year means getting back on a good diet.

Polli, I think everyone has to find the right combo of diet and exercise that works for them.

Maggie, You'd think my life would be exercise enough but it's not. I have to do more than chores to lose weight.

Judith, what clenched this diet for me was reading about things that can occur to my blood type and having those tendencies. It made me a believer in eating the right foods.

LOL Jenna. My daughter's and husband's blood type is different than mine and they are the huge dairy eaters/drinkers and they aren't supposed to have it much. While I can have all I want and I don't really care for milk but do like my cheese.

Hey Genene! Yes,emotional stress makes it hare to stay on a healthy diet.

Caroline, It's a book written by a doctor. And it makes sense to me.

Kathleen, Yes, it is great to be able to wear something you see on a mannequin and it looks decent on you.

Hi Jessa! The combo of yams and rosemary is wonderful!

Linda, You're welcome! LOL

Evelyn, Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed Secrets of a Mayan Moon. If you purchased it at Kindle I'd appreciate a review. There's a site I can do free promotion but I need at least 5 reviews on the kindle site.

Hi Paty - Silly question - what does your blood type have to do with your food intake?
