Par For The Course by Jenna Bayley-Burke

Magazine columnist Jillian Welch has one assignment to show her readers the golf course is the news single’s bar, and show an old flame all the ways she’s changed. Unless she hasn’t changed at all…

Warning: Fore! This title contains explicit sex, and a love story hazardous to your hankie supply. Oh, and exploding toads.

by Jenna Bayley-Burke

Feeling Left Out??

Me too. I wish I was going to the RWA conference in San Francisco, for a lot of reasons. The workshops, meeting editors, catching up with friends from all over the world (OK, that's the coolest part), collecting free books, exploring San Francisco as an adult...

But, the baby will be much happier here at home. So, I'll be taking advantage of all the web activities for those of us not trekking to SF. Like ::

-How to Analyze the Books You Read-

Writers seeking to break into category, historical and single titleromances are always told to READ. Yet many of us have read for yearswithout cracking the code of what editors and publishers want.

In How to Analyze the Books You Read, author Susan Meier explains asimple process that can help you analyze books to uncover therequirements, passions and just plain quirks of a publisher and/orline, as well as the exceptions to the rules that can trip up even themost savvy analyst.

It all begins Monday - July 28.

??What have you found during your web surfing??

Thursday 13 : Men Are Like...

For all those men who say, Why buy a cow when you can get milk for free. Here's an update for you: Nowadays, 80% of women are against marriage, WHY? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage. Men are like....

1. Men are like Laxatives They irritate the crap out of you.
2 Men are like. Bananas . The older they get, the less firm they are.
3. Men are like Weather . Nothing can be done to change them.
4. Men are like Blenders You need One, but you're not quite sure why.
5. Men are like Chocolate Bars . Sweet, smooth, & they usually head right for your hips.
6. Men are like Commercials . You can't believe a word they say.
7. Men are like Department Stores .. Their clothes are always 1/2 off!
8. Men are like . Government Bonds ... They take sooooooooo long to mature.
9. Men are like . Mascara . They usually run at the first sign of emotion.
10. Men are like Popcorn . They satisfy you, but only for a little while.
11. Men are like Snowstorms . You never know when they're coming, how many inches you'll get or how long it will last.
12. Men are like Lava Lamps . Fun to look at, but not very bright.
13. Men are like Parking Spots All the good ones are taken, the rest are hardly worth the effort.

Tiptoeing Towards Nothing...

The boys want to do nothing this week. Um, too bad, you have karate, kiddos. But then next week...nothing. Wonderous for small boys with unlimited art supplies and a hose, scary for a mom who was hoping to get something done. I now see why so many of my author friends take the summer off from writing. My hatchlings aren't as small and maleable as they were before...

In other news, I ventured out to the local RWA meeting with the babe...and she fussed the whole time. I'll try again in September when I can be away from her for more than an hour at a time!

Finding The Right Editor and Online Dating...

They are the same thing, I tell you! I'm still mourning the loss of my Samhain editor (She moved on to bigger and better things and as her friend I cheer her decision, as her author I boo it. There's conflict for you!) I'm on eggshells with the new Mills & Boon editor, so I haven't cracked my new Samhain one just yet. One new relationship at a time...

But finding an editor you adore and dating are the same thing!

  • vague about exactly what they want so they won't miss out on someone spectacular
  • it takes forever to hear back...or does it just feel that way because you check your inbox more?
  • miscommunications abound
  • you never doubt yourself more than the five minutes after you've hit send
  • wondering if there is a better gig out there, or if you should just feel grateful for what you have
  • the hopeful feeling that makes your stomach wiggle
  • the full-body thrill that comes from someone who knows what you mean
  • you have to set your fear aside and just jump in. Yes, you could be rejected, laughed at, ignored...but you could also find complete acceptance and someone to buy you lunch!

Follow the bouncing ball...

I have so little time online these days. With the boys home from school for the summer and the new baby, it seems there is never a free minute. I find I'm making notes of what to do in my online time.

Today I finally too Michelle Styles' advice and filledo ut my Author Unbound page on Shelfari. If you ahve books listed there, you should too. It only takes a few minutes. To do this, add at least one of your books to your Shelfari page. Click on my profile, click on my authors, click on your name and follow the bouncing ball. There is a place to link your page to your shelfari page, making it easier for readers to find you, and for you to find the page later to add on a bio or welcome message or what have you.

Go on. Get it done...
