Thursday 13 : Internet Promotion

With two books out, I have been spending tons of time on internet promo...so, tell me...what do you think is worthwhile, and what is worth skipping?

1. Yahoo groups -- Samhaincafe has been fun, while others are full of the 'when is the giveaway' crowd.

2. Blog tours -- The ones of these I have seen seem to get all their hits from contributors, so I skipped them

3. Getting your friends to blog (thanks, Romance Divas!!)

4. Newsletters -- Should I do one? I have bad newsletter karma, I never read them.

5. Contest / giveaways -- Her Cinderella Complex was a Book-of-The-Day giveaway at TRS on Tuesday...For Kicks should be coming up later this month

6. Book reviews -- these trickle in slowly but they always make my day

7. Author interviews -- I just did a cataromance one, and have one scheduled with TRS

8. Free Reads -- nothing is better than the Romance Divas ebook challenge

9. Online chats -- these are so hit or miss, though the CoffeeTime Romance one I did had great people.

10. Reader groups (Manic Readers, The Romance Studio)

11. Forums -- not sure Romance Divas is the place to promote books as it is a writing resource site, but I do know it is great for support from other authors. I stalk the eHQ and CTR forums.

12. Guest blogging -- like I did at Naughty & Spice or Idea Boutique

13. Cover ads -- mine are up at CoffeeTime Romance

?? What did I miss ??
Adelle added - MySpace & Facebook...I do have MySpace.

These are all great suggestions. I'd include, MySpace, FaceBook pages. Also, an example of what I do is, I write a lot of Biker Fiction, so I frequent a few groups that are all about bikers (nothing to do with writing) but you hit your target audience. Just a thought. Best of luck to you. Happy T13!

The Romance Studio is good for cover ads. That's about all I can think of right now.

Personally, I like newsletters, and if I like a book by an author, I'll look to see if there's a newsletter I can sign up for--it helps ensure that I don't miss any of their books.

Yahoo groups are fun, too, and I've discovered a lot of authors because they posted on other authors' Yahoo groups. The pros of joining a group dedicated to another author are that you know the members actually read, and if they get to know you, they'll be more likely to check out your books. The cons, though, are that it can be time-consuming, and if you don't genuinely like the author (or the group's subject matter, whatever it is), promotion might backfire.

I like 'em all. LOL. Blog hopping has actually garnered me some readers. Not when I was trolling for readers, but when I was following my own interests. (The Deadliest Catch and others).
Some of these are awesome suggestions Jenna.

So which did you like doing the best? You have a LOT more experience at it than I do.

Loop chats are realy great, I think. You don't realize how many readers lurk! LOL!

Excellent ideas, Jenna! I think it's a matter of figuring out which you like best, and what works for you, and concentrating on those. Here's wishing you many sales!

I can't think of any others, outside of the ones mentioned in the comments. Great list, Jenna!

Swung over to see if there are any new ideas, but I think you covered them all. And I'm with you on the newsletter *scrunches nose* I don't read them so I haven't done one. But I know lots of people who enjoy them!

Good info! There are a few I have yet to try.

Depends on how you use a newsletter. When you put them out only when there's release news, I love 'em. When you put them out monthly just to put them out, forget it.

o.O . . . that's a great list. It sounds like a lot of work, but I'm sure it all pays off. Good luck Jenna!

I'm fairly new to RD, but I have to tell you, I think the site is GREAT for book promotions. I've purchased three books based on book cover links in signature areas. That's also how I found YOURS. I'm intrigued by the reviews--they make me want to take a peek.

During NaNoWriMo, I met another writer who's being published soon. And now she's an editor. She led me to RD. Who knows? Maybe she (or someone else) will lead me to a sale.

Post lots everywhere (good posts, informative and/or fun posts that are worthwhile to read) and MAKE SURE your book cover with an enticing one or two sentence is in your signature.

Well, that's my dime.

Thanks for sharing this list!
