Tangled

TangledHow cute is this movie! Rapunzel is one of my favorite stories because the princess has a hand in her own rescue. This made the hero out to be a bit of a dolt, but whatever works for comedic effect!

I found the animation very pretty in this film, and however they animated the hair really worked. The animation was lost on the kiddos, the boys loved the thugs from the pub and the girl loved Rapunzel and the horse, Max. She wasn't a fan of the villainess, Gothel, but no one is supposed to be.

My big one had a few basic concerns - like who built the tower in the first place, did it have indoor plumbing, how the chameleon made it up there, and how Rapunzel got enough vitamin D if she stayed inside all the time.

I just made him another bowl of popcorn. I don't think that boy will ever buy into the suspension of belief!

Movie Monday :: The Ugly Truth

Morning show TV producer in a ratings slump must take on a chauvenistic public access star to please the network execs. He's as slick as oil, she's as tart as vinegar...together they wind up making a great dressing.

OK, lame example. But this was lots of fun, especially since at the end, neitther of them could put their finger on what or why they fell in love. Which is reality.

I loved how together and driven she was, yet completely insecure in relationships. I think more women feel that way than not. I liked how he could separate the good parts of himself for his nephew and the not for child viewing parts too. I think lots of men compartmentalize that way.

Plus, this movie has the same soundtrack as my bootcamp class.

Movie Monday :: Confessions of a Shopaholic

I have been trying to see this movie for years! (Not to mention planning on reading the series of books!) I have set reminders on my cable box dozens of times, and yet never actually managed to see it. This week it wasn't convenient either, but I just decided to watch and put the baby down late for her nap.

I loved this one from the beginning. I love to shop, not that I take it to the extreme that Becks does, but I can definitely relate to the draw, the thrill, and how it makes you feel better, if only for a moment. In a light, funny movie, the emotional struggle with shopping addiction was extremely well handled.

And then the is the cuteness that is Hugh Dancy, at his most adorable as Beck's editor at a financial magazine. Le sigh.

I think my favorite roles were becks parents, played by John Goodman and Joan Cusack. Maybe because I have parents who spent my childhood looking for every sale and deal and dressing me as such.
I really should ahve watched it sooner :)

Movie Monday :: Sunday's At Tiffany's

What a lovely, romantic movie. I caught it on Lifetime, but had never heard about it. I looked it up online and it has mixed reviews...people (like me) who hadn't read James Patterson's book loved it, people who had were disappointed the story had changed.

Following the plotlines or not, it was an interesting twist on falling again for your first love. In this case, as Jane is stressing out over trying to plan her wedding, she sees her imaginary friend from childhood, all grown up. After thinking she might be imagining him again, she embraces his comforting presence and manages to plan her wedding - until they kiss.

When her fiance is away, they recconnect and Jane quickly realizes what she feels for th man she's planning to marry isn't love, but what she feels for Michael is.

But Michael believes he'll be taken away again on her birthday, just as he was when she was a child. So they end things again. But then...there is the happy ending that I simply adore. (sigh)

Loved it!

Movie Monday :: The Bounty Hunter

I think I missed the part that explained why they broke up in the first place...which matters in romance novels, but didn't seem to bother me in a movie.

Following the break up and divores, her career clossoms, his tanks. The former cop takes up as a bounty hunter to help pay off his gambling debts, and gets his perfect job - bringing in his ex wife!

Except she's in some trouble of her own.

I kinda wish they would have hooked up at the Cupid Inn...but I think that has to do with my crush on Gerard Butler. I have faith that Jennifer Aniston probably tried to talk the director into it as well...alas... it's still fun :)

Movie Monday :: When In Rome

This was clever - a type-A New Yorker rushes to Italy for her die-hard romantic sister's wedding....and at a pity party jumps into a fountain and 'frees' a few of the coins, tossed in as a wish for love.

Magic and mayhem ensues as the men who make the wishes think they are in love with her...all the while the guy she's falling for has to dance around them, and her own worries that she took his wish as well.

Cute, clever, funny...perfect date movie.

Movie Monday :: Her Minor Thing

This was a cute movie about a woman who's reporter boyfriend accidentally annouces she's a virgin on air. Misunderstandings ensue - including stolen tickets for a Brazillian cruise!

I wish the pacing had been a bit faster, but some of the supporting characters made the slow bits worthwhile. There is the VAGUE league - Virgins Against Guys Under Evolved...or something close to that. They even have a dance!

Movie Monday :: Did You Hear About The Morgans?

A separated couple on the verge of divorce witness a murder, and are sent into witness protection together. The typical New Yorkers are dropped in Wyoming, and hilarity ensues. Being so out o ftheir element, give the pair a chance to come together again and talk out the issues they'd been avoiding.

My fave lines?

Meryl : Actually, I'm a member of PETA. "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals."
Emma : So am I. Except mines "People for Eating Tasty Animals."
I'm really enjoying watching movies again :)

Movie Monday :: The Proposal

I've wanted to see this movie for ages! I have to say, it was as fun as I thought it would be. I love when that happens.

Margaret is facing deportation, and so blackmaisl her assistant, Andrew into marrying her. Maybe it's extortion. Anyway, with the INS onto the scheme, they head to Alaska to tell Andrew's parents they are getting married. And while there, they stumble their way into love.

Betty White stole the show, as usual.

Movie Monday :: I Hate Valentine's Day

Florist Genevieve loves dating and romance...but to keep it from getting boring and falling apart, she only has five dates before moving on. Enter Greg, who thinks a sleepover counts as two dates, and so cheats her out of her fifth date. Over the next year, the two comes to realize neither wants a final date.

Cute...but since it is the same pairing from My Big Fat Greek Wedding...I kept thinking that was a better movie.
