Thirteen Reasons to read "Her Cinderella Complex"
I have to do it...shameless promotion is a rite of passage :) Plus, J-Lee did it.
- The Pool Scene. Has to be the number one reason...hence why I pulled the excerpt from there :)
- The Private Island...don't tell me you don't want one.
- It's a modern fairy tale
- The hero has a secret, and even he doesn't know what it is!
- I got to keep the shoes!
- A millionaire boss
- Immi edited it, so that gives me some street cred...or web cred...
- It's dedicated to Cherry Adair and everyone at the Emerald City Writers Conference who finished the damned book.
- There is a getaway in a yacht!
- Sex in the kitchen
- I worked in references to Great Expectations
- It's on the My Bookstore and More best seller list
- Did I say please? Please?

In The News...
For Kicks Hillsboro author writes romances
There is an article about me and my latest release in my local paper. They got my website wrong, and the title of Her Cinderella Complex, but who can complain? It is lovely!
She mentioned all my favorite things - my kids, my writing, my local romance group and NaNoWriMo! Talk about fab!
It makes me proud to be a part of this community. Our local paper has a section that celebrates the accomplishments of residents, and that alone makes me proud.

RELEASE DAY!!
HER CINDERELLA COMPLEX releases today! Thanks to everyone who's been watching the creation of this story, and the path it took to publication.
The Idea Boutique has the saga of how this story found me. I've gone back and looked at my Writing A Book With Trish Wylie posts and found the basics of my setting, hero, & heroine. I found how excited I was by Cherry Adair's Finish The Damned Book challenge. It is such fun to remember.
Thanks to Samhain, the process of getting this book ready for the public has been as wonderful as the book was to write. The editing was a supportive learning experience, and the cover creation was just plain fun.
So those with room on their e-book readers...head on over to My Bookstore and More to find HER CINDERELLA COMPLEX. For those who wait for the paperback...I think we might get it by Christmas. For an excerpt click here

The Review Collector...
With three releases out in such a short span I feel like Google Alerts is working overtime finding all the buzz for the different titles. Today I found a review from Romance Reader At Heart on FOR KICKS ::
FOR KICKS is a great read for those who like a dose of realism with their romance. If you’ve been or are a working woman, you’re going to feel the compromises in each decision Breeze makes, and worry with her about the consequences. Logan is impossible to resist, but his position in Breeze’s professional life means he comes with danger attached. If only all workplace romances turned out so well! FOR KICKS is definitely a fairy tale.

Brilliant!
I saw a review of the Dreams & Desires anthology today...and the reviewer said The Best Day (my contribution to the book) is brilliant. I love that. Really made my morning.
The Best Day – Jenna Bayley-Burke
Sometime during her marriage and having two children, Gail has lost her purpose, her identity. When did that happen? And how come she has only just noticed that she seems surplus to requirements? I felt for Gail as she comes to terms with how things have panned out, and her determination to re-establish herself is something I identified with. The last two lines of dialogue sum up the whole tale—the whole meaning of what Gail has experienced. Brilliant.

FOR KICKS excerpt
FOR KICKS - Black Lyon Publishing - March 1
Breeze opened the door slightly, standing in the gap. “You know it’s after midnight?”
“We need to talk.” Logan pushed her door open with his hand, but stayed on the landing.
“You’re not coming in. I’m not someone you can call at midnight and think coming over means…that we’re going to…” She waved her hand through the air, trying to make her point and push away the erotic scenes unfolding in her mind.
“To what, Breeze? What is it you think I want to do?” He stepped closer, his toes on the edge of her welcome mat. He expected her to step away, but she held her ground and his gaze.
“I don’t care.” She lifted her stubborn chin.
He dropped his voice to a deep whisper. “Oh, but you do. You want to know if what I had in mind matches up with what’s running through your thoughts right now.”
Her skin flushed a telltale pink, letting him know he was right. He knew he had one shot to get her to open her mind to the possibility, before she disappeared for a month. A month of non-stop going sure to stifle the little progress he’d made with her. He needed her to agree to let him call, and visit. Though his brief glimpse at the schedule Mendelssohn’s faxed showed little room for fun.
“You want me to go?”
She closed her eyes and nodded slowly. He reached for her hand, pulling it to him while she stayed still as a statue. He raised her wrist to his lips, feeling the pulse point thrum.
“You don’t want me to leave yet.”
Her eyes fluttered open, the icy color melting into a blue like the center of a flame. His temperature rose at the sight, heating his blood to simmering.
“Let me in, Breeze.” He clutched the stack of promotional photos tighter in his hand and considered throwing them to the ground.
She stepped aside, each breath deep and labored. He stepped into the room and she backed against the door closing it. The only light in the room came from the glow of a large fish tank filled with greenery and gurgling softly.
She watched him intently, eyeing the photos as he set them on her suitcase. “I thought I might need a cover. You don’t really need them.” He stepped to her and she pressed herself tighter against the door. He lifted a hand to her cheek, sliding his fingers along the smooth skin.
Her eyes opened wider, showing so much emotion he couldn’t guess what it all meant. Stunned, mesmerized, frightened. Wanting to calm her he didn’t move closer, but instead indulged his curiosity and slid his fingers into her thick curls.
There wasn’t a tangle in the silken strands, just tight smooth ringlets. Her hair intrigued him. It was so beautiful, yet she kept it twisted and hidden most of the day. The smooth glide of his fingers held an erotic effect he hadn’t counted on, but then so did most things about her.
“Logan?” she whispered, peering up at him.
“No one will know, not unless you want them to.”
“I can’t risk it. I’m so close to getting everything I’ve ever wanted.”

Her Cinderella Complex excerpt
It's up on the Samhain website! Finding an excerpt is hard to do...you want it to capture the tone of the story, but to do that in just a few hundred words? Here's hoping this one shows the sexy and playful way the Heather and Curtis interact...

So I read a book...
A genre that I would normally never read..urban fantasy.
My friend Maggie and I carpool to our RWA meetings each month. Before winning this book, she'd never read urban fantasy, and neither had I. She is a romantic suspense lover, while I tend to stick to the lighter, sexier stuff. Still, when she told me I had to read this...I figured I'd better!
We're talking Las Vegas superheroes battling it out on alternate planes of reality. I can barely handle this reality, why add another?
I have no idea...but I read this book, all 400+ pages in 2 days. I couldn't stop. The Scent of Shadows (Sign of the Zodiac, Book 1) by Vicki Pettersson had me from the premise, and I just had to know more. So much so that now I want the next book in line.
Like most series, there are two 'heroes' and one heroine...again, not my thing...yet it worked. The premise alone is enough to have you flipping the pages every chance you get. The characterisation was wonderful, but I hope the plot is tighter in the next installment.
What's that? Yes, I am. I am going to step outside my box and read another urban fantasy. Here's hoping it is a good as this one.
Have you ever read something so good is surprised you how much you liked it?

Kate Hardy wins RNA Romance Prize!!
I was so pleased to see all Mills & Boon titles shortlisted for the RNA Romance Prize (a concentrated version of the RITAs for the UK). OK, so I'll admit...I was quite excited to see two Modern Extra authors (Julie Cohen & Kate Hardy) and one for my friend Fiona Harper (my twin from across the pond). The odds were in my favor I'd know who won...
And I do!! Kate Hardy won with Breakfast At Giovanni's (her 25th M&B release). We'll be able to find it in the states this April as In Bed with Her Italian Boss from Harlequin Presents. Congrats!!

Groundhog sightings.
Eagerly this morning crowds gathered in Nova Scotia to greet Shubenacadie Sam .. they waited with baited breath, to see Sam's verdict .... Sam's the first woodchuck in North America to greet the day, and in the rain this morning, Sam doesn't see his shadow ... his verdict, "An early Spring!"
In Ontario, Wiarton Willie emerged to overcast skies, and he concurred with his east coast cousin, "An early Spring!"
But in Pennsylvania, the other world famous prognosticator, Punxsutawney Phil delivered some unhappy news ... "Six more weeks of winter!" after seeing his shadow .
As the day began across North America, the various woodchuck prognosticators made their declarations ..... Staten Island Chuck cries "Six more weeks!" ... Long Island's Malverne Mel, decrees "Six more weeks of winter!" ..... Georgia's General Beauregarde Lee proclaims, "Early Spring!" .... Alberta's Balzac Billy, insists "It's an early Spring!"
So what's it to be??? .... which woodchuck do you believe? - Katherine

I worship Jane Austen
This is true. Did my undergrad thesis on her, and LOVED it. I feel for people who slogged through theirs.
I wanted to remind you (and me) of Masterpiece Theater broadcast adaptations of all of Jane Austen's six novels plus a new drama based on her life will be starting soon.
Here is a schedule of the Austen novels that will be aired.
Jan 13 - Persuasion (missed it. boy was sick)
Jan 20 - Northanger Abbey (LOVED it. But then, I think this book is lovely as well)
Jan 27 - Mansfield Park
Feb 3 - Miss Austen Regrets (CAN. NOT. WAIT. for this!)
Feb 10 though Feb 24 - Pride and Prejudice
Mar 23 - Emma
Mar 30 and Apr 6 - Sense and Sensibility
If you read/watch at least two Jane Austen novels/movies in 2008 you will have satisfied the requirements for Becky's Mini-Austen Challenge. How's that for wonderful?
